Look ahead for May 16, 2016

Notes from Mr. Ross:

Just a few reminders as we hit the final two weeks of the 2015-2016 school year.  NO videos, no exceptions.  Take your kids outside, teach a lesson outside, have some activities to keep your students engaged in school.  This time of year is no different than any other, our students need to be engaged or they will begin to entertain themselves.

I need everyone's LLI/ Star360 papers ASAP.  They were due Friday; expect some questions/a conversation as to why they weren't turned in on time.

If you guys are doing anything special in your classroom the next few weeks you need to let the office know.  If we don't know we will be telling the parents "no" and then... Yikes!  Please remember to follow the district policy in regards to parties... we've had our two for the year.

I have not heard anything in regards to our textbooks for next year.  I have heard rumors that we will be using treasures, Heaven help us, for another year as well as being told our book rooms and guided reading books will be our reading curriculum.  I will say a 30 million dollar short fall will cause people to do some crazy things.  I will keep you posted on any information as I hear it.

I will leave you with the knowledge that we've hired a sixth grade teacher and a Principal's secretary for next year.  I can tell you beyond the shadow of a doubt that I am excited about the hires we have made for next year.  I think we will continue to improve ourselves as a staff and for the betterment of our students.

Keep smiling and fake it 'til you make it!  Two weeks to go!

Shaun Ross

Once the student has successfully logged on, they will then select either STAR Early Literacy (K-1), STAR Reading (2-6) or STAR Math (2-6).  After selecting an assessment, the student will need to select the class labeled reading. The student will then proceed with the pre-test. Once the student has completed the pre-test, a box will pop-up asking for a monitor password to advance to the real assessment portion.  Please note that the student will select the class labeled reading for both STAR Math and STAR Reading after they select the designated assessment from their dashboard.

    Notes from Mr. Ross:

    - I wanted to take a moment to clarify my postponing the two vertical teaming days, notice on the calendar Tuesday's teaming has been postponed as well, on rubric based instruction and small group mathematics centers.  When five staff members call in sick the morning of the small group mathematics it sends a clear message that we, all staff members, are tired and/or not prepared for the activity.  Message received loud and clear!
A big thanks to those who were ready to go and prepared for the day.  I will let you know if we can squeeze these days in before we release for summer break.

    - By week's end I want to have a beginning, middle and end of year Star360 score for all students grades Kinder through 6th.  I will send out a power point for everyone to fill out as early as tomorrow morning.  That spread sheet will also have a beginning and ending running record for grades Kinder through 4th.

    - We will have a VOLUNTARY faculty meeting Tuesday after school to discuss the title one budget for next year.  We will be looking at after-school tutoring, a book room, Learner First and other technology components including more chrome books.  I do not expect the meeting to last more than a normal meeting would.

Keep smiling and fake it 'til you make it!  Three weeks to go!

Look ahead for May 2, 2016

      Notes from Mr. Ross:

I put out a contest to buy the entire grade level lunch if everyone could name the article I asked about in my email on Tuesday.  Sadly not one single grade level had all the individuals answer the question.  Needless to say my wallet's a little fatter and my heart is a lot hurt.  I am truly at a loss of how anyone can survive by not checking their emails or looking through the calendar to make sure their not surprised.

I am looking forward to this Friday.  Vertical teaming with the younger grade levels is going to be fun and allow us to improve on our mathematics small group instruction.  Older grades make sure to have your activities ready for the young kids as well as your own.  Participating individuals be prepared to showcase your chapter, after all you guys are now the experts.

Keep an eye on the calendar, both on this look ahead as well as the google calendar online.  It is a busy week ahead of us.

I will leave you with a serious question:  Do your lesson plans for the week excite you?  If not, why would your students feel differently?  Make every moment count!

Keep smiling and fake it 'til you make it!
